You want a web site because it will add value to your business..
What options do you have?
- You can learn how to build a web site yourself - it's not that hard to build a simple site, but it takes time and while you are learning how to do it you're not running your business. If you want to build a big, content-rich site, it is hard, and it will take you a long time to learn how to do it.
- You can go to a web design company, and they will charge you to build your site according to how much time it takes to build it. The bigger and more complicated the site, the more they will charge.
- You can find the 14 year-old son of a friend who will build it for you. It will be cheap, but you may end up with a web site looking like a scene from DOOM!

- You may just want to get your company name and contact details out there on a simple site so that people can find you and contact you.
- You may want a site which allows people to learn more about your company, and enhance the public image or your company.
- You may want a site which allows your customers to log on and track the progress of their orders.
- You may want to trade on-line.
If we know what you want from the site, we can work out how much your traffic is worth to you.
- A visitor to your site which just has your contact details may be worth 5p.
- Someone sending in an email enquiry from your site may be worth 10p.
- A visit to your site to track an existing order may be worth £1.
- Someone visiting your site to place an order may be worth £10.
There are many other factors which may affect the value:
- How many people find your site and stay there rather than leaving it immediately. (it's called "bounce rate")
- Which pages people visit.
- How long they spend there.
- How many pages they visit in a session.
It's easy to track all these factors.
So this is what we do:
- I build your site, and don't charge you anything for doing so.
- I include a bit of code on each page which provides information to a tracking programme.
- You can access your traffic information any time you want to see for yourself what is happening.
- If you want to add extra features to your site, we figure out how much they are worth, and I add them.
- At the end of each month, we calculate how much your traffic for the month is worth, and you send me a cheque.
So my interest is to build you a web site which generates traffic of the sort which is valuable to your business.
